Visiting the Garden
During the decent weather season (roughly mid-April through mid-November), the garden is always open to the public for meandering and study on Sundays from noon until 6:00 PM. There is usually a gardener (me) around on Sundays to answer questions and, in 2010, plant lists will be available to help visitors with identification (of the plants; we hope you already know who you are). The plants are not labeled (it’s a garden, not a small pet cemetery), but we rarely tire of answering questions. If there is no gardener present, you are still welcome to tour; we just ask that you use the same level of common sense and courtesy that you would if someone was looking over your shoulder. (In other words, please do not take plants, pick flowers or help yourself to cuttings without clear permission to do so.)
We are also happy to accommodate small groups at other times by appointment. By small groups, we mean at least six people who will all arrive at the same time and tour the garden in a bunch and who are hoping for, at the least, a mini-lecture on gardening in general and this garden in particular. We do not have 'public' facilities for food and/or drink (although there are plenty of opportunities within a five minute drive). Private 'facilities' are available for those in desperation.
NOTE: The garden’s pathways are all grass (usually) and there is some terrain involved (it is not all flat). That means it will have wet spots after rain and some parts can be difficult even for motorized wheelchairs. We ask that animals be restricted to the car park area and that goes for small children if they are not well-behaved. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property.
